Samnicki Russians

About Samnicki Russians

Welcome to my website! My name is Robyn Hackworthy and I am proud to present my family of Russian Blues. My love of these majestic cats goes back some 15 years when my husband and I retired it gave me time to indulge my passion for breeding and showing.

I have been lucky to have had very experienced mentors from the Cat Fancy, and I thank Kay, Sally, Pam and Sharon for their guidance and entrusting me with magnificent kittens from their lines.

Our recent litter from our two award winning Queens have now all been sold. My girls only have a maximum of two litters a year so If you are wanting a Russian Blue kitten it is wise to contact me on 02 4365 6430 so I can put your name on the ‘new parent’ waiting list.

Russian Cattery History

Unlike so many modern cat breeds, the Russian Blue is a naturally occurring breed which is believed to have originated in the port of Arkhangelsk, on the White Sea of Russia, not far from the Arctic Circle.

The Russian Blue Cat has a lean, well toned, medium-sized body and a short, plush, blue-grey coat. The colour is the dilute expression of the black gene. The coat is unique to the breed as it is a double coat, with the undercoat being soft and downy, and the longer guard hairs an even blue with silver tips. The tips give the coat a shimmering appearance.

Its eyes are almost always a vivid green. These cats are highly intelligent and playful but tend to be timid around strangers, however within a day or two, the baby Russian has thoroughly sussed out its new environment and sized up the family as being worthy of its devotion.

The kittens will rage around the kitchen at mealtime, helping with the chores and spending their evenings gazing adoringly into their favourite persons face. The need for prolonged eye contact seems to be a strong personality trait in most Russians. They will sit as still as a statue but, if ignored, will chirrup and squeak until you close your book, turn off the television and give your undivided attention. This is all part of the love affair that epitomizes the magic of the Russian Blue cat.

This magic is a combination of the Russian’s awareness of its own dignity, a quiet and majestic type of feline beauty and the love and loyality that results from an immensely strong bond between cat and their chosen human.

Samnicki - How it all began

Back in 1993 we were given 2 beautiful part Russian Blue kittens. We named them Sam and Nicki, they were adorable, smart and playful, with the most beautiful nature of any cats that we had owned. Unfortunately Sam passed away at the age of 12 years and we were devastated, as was his brother Nicki. We set about finding a pedigree Russian blue and were lucky enough to come across a delightful lady from Tintola Cattery who bred our magical boy Tintola Evanokov, also known as Joey. Joey and Nicki became great mates and we were back to a happy group of felines and humans.

I then contacted another breeder and made my second adoption. Uki Arkhangeliska was born on the 6th January 2007. Uki Cattery gave us the most beautiful kitten that we named Tatiana, which suits her as she is such a little Russian lady. She has the most magnificent temperament. Before we picked her up she had been placed in the Top Ten kittens at the Gold Coast Show.

In May 2007 Joey, Tatiana and I set off to our first show on the Central Coast. Joey was awarded 3 Challenge Certificates, Best of Breed, Best in Section and in the Top Ten Section – 1st in Altered Male. Tatiana was awarded Reserve Supreme Exhibit, Best in Section, Best of Breed and in the Top Ten Section – 2nd Entire Kitten. We knew we had ‘Beautiful’ Russians and now people who judged them confirmed it.

Our second girl came from Tyana Cattery and was born on 22 April 2007. We called her Tyana Nina Borodina. A little ball of fluff arrived at Sydney airport on a cold windy day in winter. We arrived at the airport equipped with hot packs and a warm bunny rug. To our amazement she was cool and calm and had enjoyed her first journey. She made immediate friends with all our cats, and Tatiana and Nina have been inseparable ever since. Her first show was amazing as she took out multi awards including Supreme Exhibit

To complete our Russian family Anou Cattery bred for us our magnificent Anou Ramius Marko. He was born on 2nd October 2007. He was an instant hit and has grown into a magnificent stud.

My eternal gratitude to Kay, Pam, Sally and Sharon, the breeders of our foundation Russians and giving us the opportunity to being slaves to this wonderful breed.

When registering our Breeders Prefix we wanted to honor the two part Russians who made us fall in love with this magnificent breed… so by joining their names we have – Samnicki Cattery.

Re-homing Russian Blues

We often have available ex breeding cats that have given us beautiful kittens or ex show cats and now deserve to sleep on the end of a loving family’s bed. So obviously we are looking for special parents who are willing to spend the time loving and caring for their cats.

In many cases we like to re home 2 cats together as they settle in much quicker and they are a joy to watch the interactions with each other.

My cats are healthy and come desexed, microchipped registered, free of parasites and have social skills i.e. litter trained and friendly. These cats are strictly indoor cats or can be let out only in a cat run during the day.
